Distance-based accessibility indices

چکیده

The paper attempts to develop a suitable accessibility index for networks where each link has a value such that a smaller number is preferred like distance, cost, or travel time. A measure called distance sum is characterized by three independent properties: anonymity, an appropriately chosen independence axiom, and dominance preservation, which requires that a node not far to any other is at least as accessible. We argue for the need of eliminating the independence property in certain applications. Therefore generalized distance sum, a family of accessibility indices, will be suggested. It is linear, considers the accessibility of vertices besides their distances and depends on a parameter in order to control its deviation from distance sum. Generalized distance sum is anonymous and satisfies dominance preservation if its parameter meets a sufficient condition. Two detailed examples demonstrate its ability to reflect the vulnerability of accessibility to link disruptions. JEL classification number: D85, Z13 AMS classification number: 15A06, 91D30

Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Spatial Accessibility to Primary Health Care in Bhutan

Geographic information systems (GIS) can be effectively utilized to carry out spatio-temporal analysis of spatial accessibility to primary healthcare services. Spatial accessibility to primary healthcare services is commonly measured using floating catchment area models which are generally defined with three variables; namely, an attractiveness component of the service centre, travel time or di...

Estimating spatial accessibility to facilities on the regional scale: an extended commuting-based interaction potential model

BACKGROUND There is growing interest in the study of the relationships between individual health-related behaviours (e.g. food intake and physical activity) and measurements of spatial accessibility to the associated facilities (e.g. food outlets and sport facilities). The aim of this study is to propose measurements of spatial accessibility to facilities on the regional scale, using aggregated...

Distance-Based Topological Indices and Double graph

Let $G$ be a connected graph, and let $D[G]$ denote the double graph of $G$. In this paper, we first derive closed-form formulas for different distance based topological indices for $D[G]$ in terms of that of $G$. Finally, as illustration examples, for several special kind of graphs, such as, the complete graph, the path, the cycle, etc., the explicit formulas for some distance based topologica...

Accessibility Indices: A Connection to Residential Land Prices and Location Choices

Specifications of accessibility indices range from simple minimum travel-time indices, to measures of cumulative opportunities within specified distance or time thresholds, to maximum utility measures. This paper presents models relating a variety of general accessibility indices for the Dallas-Fort Worth region of Texas to property valuations for single-family dwelling units and commercial uni...

Comparing the Accessibility of Rescue Centers in the Districts of Tehran Municipality after Catastrophic Earthquakes

In this research, the centers involved in relief operations in Tehran traffic area districts have been compared and the supply-demand ratio has been specified through a relation presented separately for each district. The supply has been evaluated based on three parameters: 1) No of relief centers, 2) congestion of the main road (the ratio of the length of the main road to the area of the distr...
